It's been a less-than-desirable offseason for the Dallas Cowboys and their fanbase. Instead of re-signing key players or adding quality difference-makers to the roster, the Cowboys decided to run it back with basically the same roster.

Players have been in Oxnard, California since July 24, as they look to sharpen their skills.

Even though the Cowboys brought back Ezekiel Elliott in free agency, it's another running back who has caught the attention of people around the building.

Cowboys News: Royce Freeman Has Impressed

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was a guest on 105.3 the FAN where he revealed that veteran running back Royce Freeman has been impressive.

The organization was surprised he was available when they signed him to a one-year deal back in April.

"We were just talking about it last night at the scout dinner, ‘What in the hell was he doing sitting around out there?’ An interesting guy to just have been sitting there. He’s a great 2-3 combination in terms of what he can do as a backup. He’s a big, thick guy. And he’s a hell of a special teams player as well. He’ll be a good addition and great complement to (Ezekiel Elliott). And then we’ll let these young guys between (Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis) and those guys battle it out."

Like Jones said, Freeman is a solid extra presence in the backfield. He weighs 238 pounds and makes it tough for defenders to bring him down.

He's certainly can't your main bellcow in the backfield but in a committee, he's serviceable. In his career, Freeman has logged 471 carries for 1,792 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

With Zeke likely being the No. 1 RB in the backfield, the reps for RB2 are up for grabs and it looks like Freeman is taking advantage.
