Weather Could Have Major Impact on Cowboys' Season Opener
By Tyler Maher
This is the moment Cowboys fans have been waiting all offseason for, as Dallas is finally set to take on the New York Giants tonight at MetLife Stadium. In what promises to be an exciting Sunday Night Football matchup to cap off a huge day of football, the Cowboys will try to top their NFC East rivals in their first game of the season.
Unfortunately for Cowboys fans making the trek to New Jersey tonight, they might get a little wet.
Sunday Night Football Weather Forecast
According to AccuWeather, the forecast calls for rain from 6-8 p.m. ET with thunderstorms beginning around 8. With kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET, the start of the game may need to be pushed back a bit, depending on the storms' severity.
There's still a 30-50% change of rain after that, too, so precipitation may continue throughout the game.
Accordingly, the field at MetLife is going to be soggy tonight. Look for both teams to focus on running the ball as a result, so we should see plenty of Saquon Barkley and Tony Pollard in this one. With how strong both defenses are, too, this game could end up being fairly low-scoring.
Cowboys fans will also want to keep an eye on Dak Prescott given his injury history. Dallas needs him to stay healthy this year if it wants to have a realistic shot at a Super Bowl and can't afford to have him suffer a serious injury here.
If the weather neutralizes our passing attack, that will take away our main advantage in this game and result in a closer game. The Cowboys should still be able to win with their superior offense and strong defense, but the final score may be tighter than originally anticipated.
