Texas Rangers rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford has been one of the bright stars in Spring Training and could bring more pop to the Rangers’ lineup.

The 22-year-old hitter, who was drafted with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round of the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft, has looked nothing like a rookie this spring and could win AL Rookie of the Year.

The Rangers officially announced on Friday that the rookie outfielder will make the Opening Day roster. Langford has had an outstanding Spring Training, slashing .388/.446/.796 with six home runs and 19 home runs.

The only players with more home runs than Langford are Oneil Cruz (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Kyle Stowers (Baltimore Orioles) with seven.

2024 AL Rookie of the Year Odds: Langford Favored to Win Award

Throughout Spring Training, the American League Rookie of the Year race has seemed like a three-player race between Langford, Jackson Holliday (Orioles), and Evan Carter (Rangers).

Last week, Holliday was listed as the consensus odds-on favorite to win AL ROY (+300 on FanDuel Sportsbook) with his performance with the Orioles.

However, with Holliday being reassigned to minor league camp on Friday, it has opened up the door for Langford to take home the AL ROY award.

Langford is now the favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year (+250 on FanDuel Sportsbook), with Carter having the second-best odds (+320) and Holliday with the third-best odds (+450).

The 22-year-old Langford has gotten off to an incredible start to his professional career as he’s hit the ground running in Spring Training. Langford joins Los Angeles Angels first baseman Noah Schanuel as one of the first two members from the 2023 draft, who will be in the majors.

It should be fun to see how the Rookie of the Year race shakes out, as all eyes will be on the reigning World Series champs.
