Rangers Re-Sign Star in Surprise Free Agency Move
By Jack Gurley
Just a little while ago, it was announced that Rangers ace Nathan Eovaldi will remain in Texas after signing a three-year, 75 million contract. Re-signing Eovaldi is a huge relief for the Rangers organization and their fans, as the rotation is still in shambles due to the number of injuries the team has been dealing with for the past two seasons.
While the Rangers' rotation has been bleak since winning the World Series, Eovaldi has been one of the few bright spots. He has put together two solid seasons in a Rangers uniform and a legendary playoff run back in 2023, where he helped lead the team to their first World Series win in franchise history.
Since arriving in Arlington, Eovaldi has carried a 3.72 ERA through 54 games and currently holds a 24-13 record with the Rangers.
The one concern that comes with re-signing Eovaldi is whether or not he will be able to remain healthy throughout the entire duration of his three-year contract. His career has been setback multiple times due to injuries, including having to get Tommy John surgery back in 2016 while with the New York Yankees, which cost him to miss a substantial portion of the 2017 season.
Since joining the Rangers, Eovaldi has dealt several bad hands in relation to his health and has missed a decent chunk of time in both seasons he has been with the Rangers.
Overall, all Rangers fans should be breathing a huge breath of relief that the Rangers front office was able to bring Eovaldi back. Hopefully, Eovaldi can remain the pitcher he has been for the Rangers for the past two seasons.
If so, the team might just have some hope of rebuilding this rotation that appears to be far from as competitive as the Rangers would like it to be going into 2025.
