Against all odds, the Dallas Cowboys' running game has actually been pretty solid this season. Javonte Williams has turned back the clock, and he's looking like the star he seemed poised to be when he first entered the league.

So far, Williams is up to 472 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 92 carries, averaging a respectable 5.2 yards per attempt. However, even the best teams can be improved, and the Cowboys' backfield clearly isn't the exception to that rule.

The Dallas Cowboys Could go After Jaylen Wright

The Cowboys just lost Miles Sanders to a season-ending injury. That's why ESPN's Jeremy Fowler believes they could be in the mix to get one of their former draft targets, as the Miami Dolphins might part ways with Jaylen Wright.

"Wright is a player I've had on my radar for that very reason. A lot of teams were high on him in the 2024 draft, including Dallas, which has a soft need after the Miles Sanders injury," wrote Fowler. "And here's a change-of-pace option: Baltimore's Keaton Mitchell. He has game-changing speed but is the odd man out in the Ravens' backfield."

Wright entered the league last season as a fourth-round pick out of Tennessee. He made 15 appearances and started one game as a rookie, logging 68 total carries for 249 yards. However, he has yet to see the field this season, so he looks like an obvious trade candidate for the struggling Dolphins.

Head coach Mike McDaniel could be fired if Miami loses to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and falls to 1-6 for the season. As such, it shouldn't be long before the Dolphins begin their panic sale, and while De'Von Achane is the guy to watch in the Dolphins' backfield, the Cowboys don't need him with Williams already on the roster.

Dallas seemed to be quite high on Wright last season, so there are reasons to believe they would still think highly of him. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been critical of rookie Jaydon Blue, and there have been some worrisome reports about his work ethic, so if he doesn't feel fully confident about him as Miles Sanders' potential replacement, it would make sense to go after Wright.

Through the first six games of the season, the Cowboys have averaged a respectable 117.2 rushing yards per contest. Adding a change of pace back to the equation should work wonders for them going forward.
