It seems that George Pickens isn't the only Dallas Cowboys receiver due for an extension after yet another impressive performance from Ryan Flournoy. The 26-year-old playmaker has been on fire lately, recording 13 catches for 155 receiving yards and a touchdown in his last two games, which includes Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings with the second-most catches (four) and receiving yards (40) on the team.

The Cowboys' WR3 role has been in flux throughout the recent season. This year's example is Jalen Tolbert, whose inconsistency has ruled the receiver out of being a potential answer behind Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, as proven when he was held inactive in Week 15, marking back-to-back games where he's ridden the bench.

Offsetting this frustration is the emergence of Flournoy, who has quickly become a fan favorite in Dallas. The second-year WR still has a season left on his contract, so the Cowboys don't have to worry about him as much as they do Pickens. At the same time, though, they've seen Flournoy's potential, and if he plays the 2026 season without an extension in place, there's a chance his asking price could skyrocket.

Cowboys Must Extend Ryan Flournoy This Offseason

While Pickens is the primary concern here, it would be great to lock up both players and have incredible stability at the position. If Flournoy continues to grow and gain the trust of Dak Prescott, you'll quickly have a trio of pass catchers that no team in the league has any hopes of competing with. Already, Lamb and Pickens have an argument as the league's best duo at the position. It is hard to find any reasonable fan or pundit who is going to argue against this logic.

If Flournoy continues his current path very quickly, the Cowboys could make this an impressive trio and bring stability to the position. Making this more enticing is the fact that the ex-2024 sixth-rounder already has two 100-yard receiving games this season. If he can keep hitting the century mark, other WR-needy teams might be open to overpaying for his services in March 2027, which will make it hard for Dallas to keep him.

Flournoy re-signing with Dallas ahead of his deal expiring works in the favor of the Cowboys, preventing his price from shooting up, and gives him incredible stability. It is a win for both sides and a move the franchise should be exploring as they work to get Pickens under contract beyond this season.

Flournoy has shown more than enough growth to garner extension consideration and is quickly becoming one of the more popular depth pieces on the Dallas roster. If the Cowboys want to end their non-stop WR3 search, they know what they must do next.
