The Dallas Cowboys' playoff hopes are hanging by a thread after losing to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. While a gloomy postseason outlook isn't ideal, making matters worse is that it also seems like the relationship between cornerback Trevon Diggs and America's Team is deteriorating.

The Cowboys didn't activate Diggs, who's been sidelined since October, for the contest, and that seemed to bother Diggs. Following the game, Diggs told reporters that he felt good enough to play (h/t @tommy_yarrish). He was told by Dallas on Saturday that he wouldn't be active, but wasn't given a reason.

Diggs expressed that he was upset by the news and relayed that message to the team. Meanwhile, owner Jerry Jones said that Diggs isn't healthy enough to play yet, according to the Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins.

Based on how both sides are saying opposite things, it seems like a breakup is on the horizon this offseason.

Trevon Diggs, Cowboys Breakup Looks Clear After Differing Comments

The Cowboys have until Dec. 20 to activate Diggs from injured reserve, or his season will be over. He's been on IR since Oct. 25, after suffering a concussion in an at-home incident. He was also dealing with a right knee injury, and the Cowboys felt he needed time to recover.

While he had weeks off, Diggs was a limited participant last week in practice and expected to play, but that wasn't the case. It's no secret that the relationship between both parties has changed, as NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the partnership has "soured" and "been severed."

For the last three seasons, Diggs has missed significant amounts of games, proving that the Cowboys can't rely on his availability. Even though he felt like he was ready to roll, the team felt otherwise and didn't play him in arguably the biggest game of the season to keep their playoff hopes alive. That says a lot.

Instead, they kept him on the bench and said he wasn't ready to go. Considering the Cowboys' postseason chances are almost non-existent, it doesn't seem like Dallas trusts him. If the relationship is beyond repair, Jones & Co. can create $15.5 million in cap space by trading or cutting him after June 1, 2026, per Spotrac.

There will be a lot of change on the defensive side of the ball in the coming months for the Cowboys. Diggs will likely be one of the names sent packing, as it's clear that both he and Dallas need a fresh start.
