Coming off a shocking final run and signing future Hall of Famer Klay Thompson and several solid role players this past summer, many believed that the Mavericks would be a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference.

With the Mavs almost a month into the season, however, the team is currently nowhere near where most fans and media expected them to be. They currently sit near the bottom of the Western Conference with an underwhelming 5-7 record.

While the Mavs have only played twelve games so far this season, many could argue that it is far too soon to start to panic and that they are still working out the kinks that come with a new roster. However, this past week has raised cause for concern for many fans due to the teamlosing its past four straight games and only winning two games since the month of November began.

Although the Mavs have only lost each of the past four games by one possession, it is still concerning to see a team with as much star power as the Mavs drop four straight, especially when they are against conference rivals, including the Warriors and the Suns.

While the defense still appears intact from last season, as the team is currently only allowing 111.3 points per game, it is the offense that seems to be the issue for the Mavs currently. The team is currently averaging a surprisingly low 114.25, which puts them in the middle of the pack compared to other teams in the league.

The Mavs' pedestrian offense is somewhat shocking due to the amount of star power they currently have on their roster, along with a strong supporting cast of role players.

While the Mavs are nowhere near where fans and media and themselves likely expected to be, they should take comfort that they are still less than a month into the season and have shown signs of being a promising team once the chemistry finally develops. Hopefully, the offense will become as efficient as it was last season once the team comes together.

Overall, it is too soon for fans and media to begin to worry about this season getting away from the Mavericks. However, these next few weeks will be crucial for the Mavs as they are scheduled to face the Thunder, Nuggets, and Knicks. All these teams should provide a good test for Dallas to see where they currently stand and either help them gain momentum or possibly put them in a deeper hole than they are already in.

Hopefully, these next couple of weeks go favorably for the Mavericks. If not, it could be detrimental to the remainder of the season and put them in a spot they didn't imagine being in when the season first began.
