Addressing The Dallas Stars Rumor Mill
By Cole Mentzel
Free agency is almost here and the draft is on the horizon. That means it’s time for the Dallas Stars rumors to start flowing and believe me, they have been. In the past week, the Stars have been involved in a number of trade talks and other ideas of interest and some of them are quite intriguing for Stars fans.
The Stars are interested in Patrick Sharp?
We all knew the Blackhawks were going to have to get rid of a key player soon with all of those huge contracts and Patrick Sharp was the player selected. He was recently made available and teams such as the Stars, Penguins and Panthers are considered the frontrunners at the moment.

The only issue is that the Blackhawks have a HUGE price tag on Sharp at the moment which includes a 1st round pick, an A-level prospect and a top-6 forward. That’s just absolutely not going to happen no matter what team he is traded to so everyone is going to wait until his price tag drops.
The only connection I’ve seen between the two teams has been a deal involving Sharp and Roussel which, most likely, would not go down well with Stars fans but it has been mentioned.
The Stars could trade for Lehner, Talbot or Lack?
One pressing issue for the Stars lately has been their goaltending situation and they’ve been linked to a few goalies in particular: Cam Talbot (NYR), Robin Lehner (OTT) and Eddie Lack (VAN).
Talbot is a hot topic right now and a lot of fans would love to see him in Dallas but the truth is he is just going to be too hard to get. He will have a high price tag, just like Sharp, and it might not be worth it. As for Lehner and Lack, they very well could be traded sometime soon.

TSN Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted that the Senators had recently amped up their efforts to trade Lehner and it could potentially happen this week. Since the Stars most likely will not get Jhonas Enroth back, it would be wise to trade for a solid backup like Lehner who is only 23 years old. It gives him plenty of time to grow into a big time player for the Stars franchise.
Lack is an interesting story. His status has been covered up by most of the other discussions out there right now so he is kind of flying under the radar at the moment. He would be another excellent choice and would really be able to win Dallas fans over.
The Stars could take offense instead of defense in the draft?
Many believed the Stars were all in on another defenseman during the draft this summer but it seems as if they could actually be looking at offense now. A few possible options, if they’re available would be Pavel Zacha, Timo Meier, Mathew Barzal or Mikko Rantanen.
The major mock drafts out right now have varied results but most of the ones I’ve seen have the Stars taking an offensive player. However, you never know what could happen and it will all depend on who is available when it becomes the Stars turn to make a selection.
What does all of this mean?
This is basically an average Dallas Stars summer now because of the moves that Jim Nill is willing to make. You don’t know what he has up his sleeve next. Keep a close eye on the rumors floating around right now because they could grow legs in the next week leading up to free agency.
