Who Will Be Lining Up Under Center?

By a head and shoulders margin, the quarterback position will be the biggest test of all for Strong.

Strong has been around plenty of talented quarterbacks in his coaching career, most recently Teddy Bridgewater of the Minnesota Vikings while the two were at Louisville.

Strong has a good idea of what he wants and what’s necessary at this position, as he told Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News this week:

"At that position you have to win the team. All those quarterbacks (Danny Wuerffel, Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, etc.) — they won the team. When you win the team, their confidence in you grows knowing that you can go make the plays that will win a game. You have to have that type of guy at that position."

Strong also realizes that part of this quarterback search involves a bit of luck.

So, is it going to be Junior Tyrone Swoopes or Freshman Jerrod Heard lining up against Notre Dame on September 5?

Interesting question, because Strong indicated to Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News that he wanted a single starting quarterback prior to facing the Fighting Irish:

"I think for sure there will be a clear-cut No. 1 guy before Notre Dame. Both of those guys are so competitive right now that it’s going to happen because they’re going to force it."

However, it’s also been reported that Strong intends to play two quarterbacks at South Bend in less than a month.

We’ll see soon enough how this idea pans out, and for how long.

Nothing happens at UT until Strong no only chooses a quarterback, but also chooses the right quarterback, period.
