The Dallas Cowboys could be looking to add some defensive tackle help via trade now that David Irving will miss the first four games of the regular season.

The Dallas Cowboys are in need of a new defensive tackle now that David Irving will miss the first four games of the season. While it appears that Jihad Ward is coming along nicely as his replacement, the team will need more depth at the position before training camp begins. It appears the team may make a few more trades, is the acquisition of a defensive tackle in the cards?

The Dallas Cowboys do not appear done with their front office moves. Not only will a second wave of free agency happen (training camp cuts) but the team appears to be positioning themselves for several trade options.

The first of which being safety Earl Thomas, however, there are a lot of hoops to jump through in that situation. Thomas must sign a new deal or promise to sign a new deal to facilitate a trade. The closer the regular season gets the more likely a trade could happen, but that does not mean it will.

More from Dallas Cowboys

So if the Cowboys decide to go another route they could look to bolster their defensive line, specifically at the defensive tackle position. One of the first names that stands out is Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Michael Brockers.

Aaron Donald is looking like he will get a monstrous deal from the Rams as he has been their best player by a mile for the last several seasons. The addition of Ndamukong Suh was huge and paying him and Donald seem like a futile effort moving into the future especially if they have to deal with Brockers.

The Rams trading Brockers to the Dallas Cowboys would benefit both teams as Los Angeles could acquire a draft pick and some cap relief while the Cowboys solve their problem at defensive tackle.

Another trade that could be looming on the horizon involves the New England Patriots. Malcom Brown is in need of a new contract and the Patriots rarely pay their players to stay instead opting to find cheaper options elsewhere. If the Dallas Cowboys could somehow find a way to acquire Brown it would help out tremendously.

Brown has been one of the bright spots of the Patriots defensive line and just like other players who manage to generate some buzz with the Pats, he is likely on his way out the door. Brown does not have eye-popping stats however he is an incredibly efficient run stopper and at only 24 years old still has a lot of growing to do.

The Patriots declined his option so that means he will likely be a free agent in 2019 if the Cowboys can get ahead of that and work out some sort of trade/re-sign deal they would have on of their starting defensive tackle spots set for years to come.
