Dallas Cowboys: Trade for Khalil Mack?
By Carl Daley
The Dallas Cowboys could be in the market for acquiring one of the top pass rushers in the league as Khalil Mack appears to be on the outs in Oakland.
The Dallas Cowboys have finally completed their final preseason game as they lost to the Houston Texans. More importantly, now that preseason is over the Cowboys will be making some of the most important roster decisions they have faced during the offseason.

As trade speculation ramps up about Seattle Seahawks safety, Earl Thomas, just who else is out there for the Cowboys to acquire? Let’s take a look at someone who is becoming a likely candidate to be dealt over the next couple of days.
Khalil Mack is basically at a stalemate with the Oakland Raiders. He does not want to play another down of football under his current deal and the Raiders have not been encouraged to move this process along.
Every day it appears more and more likely that he will be dealt, now it is all about working out a price. So far the Raiders have stated that they would want two first rounders in exchange for Mack, which is a bit pricey.
But hey Mack is thought of as one of the best pass rushers in the league so it makes sense that the Raiders would want a small fortune for him. The bigger question becomes, would that make sense for the Dallas Cowboys?
Now trading two first round picks for a perennial, Pro Bowl, pass rusher does seem to make sense in the long run. I mean, he is not Von Miller, he is not a player who is getting up there in terms of age, so realistically he should be a solid investment.
The main issue is the Cowboys already have the makings of a pretty elite pass rush, and signing Mack long-term could mean saying goodbye to some quality players. A Mack trade/extension would make it tough for the team to sign DeMarcus Lawrence with ease.
The team also would have to give up their next two first-round targets and I have a feeling a wide receiver and an offensive lineman would be next in line. So its Mack worth giving up two potential starters?
Probably not as the Dallas Cowboys have more pressing needs than finding a pass rusher. The only way a Mack trade would make sense is if the team could land him for a cheaper price than Thomas.
That remains to be seen but if the Raiders are essentially paying him to stay home, Oakland’s leverage could dwindle quite significantly. I would imagine that as time goes on both the Raiders and the Seahawks will look to get something done in terms of trading these two stars however they easily have to lower their price if they hope to get any team to commit to a trade.
Depending on the trade climate, the Dallas Cowboys could be in the running for two of the biggest defensive stars in the NFL, the main question will be, just how much do they need them?
