Stars sign BU goalie Jake Oettinger to three-year, entry-level contract
The Dallas Stars announced the signing of Boston University goaltender Jake Oettinger on Monday to a three-year, entry-level deal.
On Monday, the Dallas Stars announced via Twitter that they had signed Boston University goaltender Jake Oettinger to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Oettinger, a product of Lakeville, Minnesota, was drafted 26th overall in first round of the 2017 NHL draft. He will report to the Texas Stars in Cedar Park on an Amateur Tryout.
Prior to getting drafted, Oettinger had separated himself from the rest of the other goaltending prospects in leagues across the planet. He played exceptionally well for the Terriers in his first year in the NCAA, ending the season with a 2.11 GAA and a .927 save percentage in 35 games—he was also named to the NCAA (Hockey East) All-Rookie team, the NCAA (Hockey East) Second All-Star Team, the NCAA (New England) D1 All-Stars, and won a gold medal at the World Juniors with the United States U20 team, but he did not play in any of the games for the US.
Oettinger continued to impress in his sophomore season, posting a 2.45 GAA and a .915 save percentage over the span of all 38 games of the season for Boston. Following the 2017-18 season, Oettinger was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team, was an NCAA (Hockey East) Champion as well as the Tournament MVP, and he also won a bronze medal at the IIHF World Juniors. Oettinger played in three games for the United States, finishing with a 2.77 GAA.
