The Dallas Stars announced the signing of Boston University goaltender Jake Oettinger on Monday to a three-year, entry-level deal.

On Monday, the Dallas Stars announced via Twitter that they had signed Boston University goaltender Jake Oettinger to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Oettinger, a product of Lakeville, Minnesota, was drafted 26th overall in first round of the 2017 NHL draft. He will report to the Texas Stars in Cedar Park on an Amateur Tryout.

Prior to getting drafted, Oettinger had separated himself from the rest of the other goaltending prospects in leagues across the planet. He played exceptionally well for the Terriers in his first year in the NCAA, ending the season with a 2.11 GAA and a .927 save percentage in 35 games—he was also named to the NCAA (Hockey East) All-Rookie team, the NCAA (Hockey East) Second All-Star Team, the NCAA (New England) D1 All-Stars, and won a gold medal at the World Juniors with the United States U20 team, but he did not play in any of the games for the US.

Oettinger continued to impress in his sophomore season, posting a 2.45 GAA and a .915 save percentage over the span of all 38 games of the season for Boston. Following the 2017-18 season, Oettinger was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team, was an NCAA (Hockey East) Champion as well as the Tournament MVP, and he also won a bronze medal at the IIHF World Juniors. Oettinger played in three games for the United States, finishing with a 2.77 GAA.

More from Dallas Stars

The Terriers struggled during the 2018-19 campaign—and Oettinger’s junior year—ending the year with a 16-18-4 record. They defeated UMass Lowell in three games in the Hockey East quarterfinals but lost 1-2 in overtime to Northeastern in the Hockey East semifinals to end their season.

Oettinger finished the season with a 2.45 GAA and .926 save percentage in 36 of 38 of Boston’s games, including four shutouts. He posted six 40+ save games, and had a 1.65 GAA and .943 save percentage in the final 10 games of the Terriers’ season. He also tied Boston University’s shutout record at 13 in March with a 25-save game in the opening contest of the Hockey East playoffs against UMass Lowell in a 3-0 win.

Throughout the duration of his collegiate career, Oettinger was named a Hockey East Top Performer a total of 16 times, Defensive Player of the Week five separate times, and Player of the Week once.
