Dallas Cowboys: 10 Offensive Tackles and their Fit
Tytus Howard, Alabama State
What’s Good: Hip Fluidity, Athleticism, Hand placement
What Ain’t Good: Strength, Leverage
I discussed the possibility of the Cowboys drafting Howard in my second mock draft. As a developmental prospect, I thought he provided more upside than someone like Ivey, Edwards, or Andre James. He also is more polished than most other tackles in the draft.
He had a good Senior Bowl back in January against FBS talents and in the game against Alabama he generally held his ground. He’s a tremendous athlete being able to change direction with ease while playing speed rushers with relative ease. Compared to other tackles in this draft, his technique and hand placement are there.
Something that could increase his effectiveness would be to gain muscle. If the Cowboys were to select Howard, he would have some time to bulk into his frame before he had to log consistent snaps. He also needs to become a better run blocker but that will take some time. (It’s not like he’s an atrocious run blocker, he just needs to develop a bit more)
Howard should fair better than some other tackles the Cowboys have drafted in the past especially if he was selected in the third round. (cough….Chaz Green… cough)
