Dallas Cowboys Cinco de macho list (4 & 5)

Jake Ferguson, TE

The Dallas Cowboys newest TE, Jake Ferguson, isn’t the dominator or physical freak that Matt Walezko and Tyler Smith are. He doesn’t have the bulldog mentality that Dee Williams has either.

What he has is that macho drive that compels him to take on much bigger and better players without fear for his own safety.

His nastiness knows no bounds and in many ways John Ridgeway personifies the Dallas Cowboys 2022 offseason agenda perfectly.

Ferguson is a “stick his face in a ceiling fan” kinda guy. Unlike many of the TE prospects in this class who boast better downfield skills and/or bigger frames for blocking, Ferg is an active and eager competitor regardless of how he physically matches up against his competition.

He’s happy to take on blocks even if he is physically over-matched. That’s a rare trait for a TE nowadays and will be a welcomed addition to the Dallas Cowboys tight end room.

John Ridgeway, DT

We saved the most macho for last in Arkansas DT, John Ridgeway. A guy who wants to come in and “break necks” Ridgeway displays all the intangible traits teams look for in 1-tech DTs. Regarded as one of the least glamorous positions on the team, the 1-tech is a spot that does the dirty work and rarely gets the glory.

Ridgeway will be tasked with 2-gapping and run-stuffing. He’s the guy who’s supposed to occupy blockers so his Dallas Cowboys teammates can make the plays.

His nastiness knows no bounds, and in many ways, John Ridgeway personifies the Dallas Cowboys 2022 offseason agenda perfectly.

Next. Why the Cowboys will improve in 2022. dark

The Dallas Cowboys set out to change their culture this offseason. In addition to adding junkyard dogs like the fellas we just mentioned, they cut bait with some not-so-tough guys when they let Amari Cooper and La’el Collins leave. It’s clearly not all about talent to them – it’s about demeanor, attitude, nastiness, and an overall degree of macho.
