5 Dallas Cowboys who need to stand out in Preseason Game 1

Dallas Cowboys player to watch No. 5 Trysten Hill – 2nd round, DT
At 6’3 and weighing 310 pounds, Trysten Hill fits the mold of an ole nose tackle, a gap filler that linebackers benefit from because of his huge presence. It’s no secret that Hill has fell out of favor with the coaching staff over the years, but the former second round pick out of Central Florida knows he’s on his last chance to make an impression for good.
Hill has had a really good camp and I expect his play to continue on Saturday against the Broncos. Unlike most defensive tackles, Hill has the unique ability to stuff the run and pressure the quarterback. That’s one unique gift (think of Hall of Famer Warren Sapp, and no Hill is not Sapp, but you get my point).
Quite frankly, that’s why Dallas’ coaching staff haven’t given up on Hill as a full-fledge run stopper. Hill is healthy now and putting all of his skills together, and Hill has competition that will fuel his motivation.
Hill is feeling the pressure from fellow defensive linemen like Osa Odighizuwa, Chauncey Golston, Neville Gallimore, John Ridgeway, and Quinton Bohanna. Besides Odighizuwa, his true competition is against the next group of guys, players he clearly is more than talented than.
If Hill has overcome his immaturity and is dialed in like we have seen in camp, Dallas’ will have solved one of its biggest issues on defense-stopping the run. In two of Dallas’ most embarrassing losses last season, it lost in trenches to the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. Hill’s improve play is something to look forward too, and a better season heading into the 2022 season.
