4. Fire HC Mike McCarthy

Several head coaches around the NFL are on thin ice at the moment, including Mike McCarthy.

With the Cowboys being one of the most inconsistent teams on both sides of the ball, fans have been calling for McCarthy's job for the last several weeks. Even though he's led the franchise to three straight 12-win campaigns, a 3-5 start to the current season combined with Dallas' recent playoff futility have the fanbase ready for a new man behind the bench.

Owner/general manager Jerry Jones has made it clear that he isn't considering a coaching change, but maybe the eccentric billionaire should re-think things. Even if firing Wade Phillips 14 years ago still haunts Jones to this day, is there any real harm in giving McCarthy the axe? He's already in the final year of his contract and if there aren't any plans to bring him back in the offseason, the divorce may as well happen sooner rather than later.

Firing McCarthy would also mean an early start to the Cowboys' coaching search. Several more coaches will be fired before the playoffs begin and competition will be tough for some of the big names out there. Jones can save himself some headaches by beginning the search in November or December.

Even if the Cowboys somehow turn the season around, McCarthy has had enough opportunities to prove that he's the man for the job. He's had some bright spots, but it's clear that it might be time to roll the dice on someone else at this point.
