The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5 entering the second half of the season. Considering that they will be without Dak Prescott for an extended period of time, it would take a small miracle for them to turn things around and save their season.

Therefore, many Cowboys fans started looking ahead already. If the Cowboys miss the postseason altogether, we can reasonably expect drastic changes to the roster. With several key starters heading to free agency, there will be plenty of departures in the 2025 offseason. Let's take a look at the most important ones.

1. DeMarcus Lawrence

As Jerry Jones likes to remind Cowboys fans, the team is strapped financially in terms of cap space. They have a projected cap space of $25.65 million for 2025 that could go up to $45 million with rollover cap space. This, however, doesn't include re-signing their own players.

One of the most important players to re-sign will be veteran defender DeMarcus Lawrence. Considering other expiring players like Zack Martin and Osa Odighizuwa, it's hard to imagine the Cowboys having the resources to retain all three.

This makes Lawrence one of the most obvious candidates to leave in free agency. The four-time Pro Bowler will likely demand a big contract despite the fact that he will be 33 before the next season. As his final big payday, he will presumably prioritize guaranteed salary over all else.

Enter the Washington Commanders. Dan Quinn has made a habit of poaching his former players from Dallas. Considering how much success he has found in Washington with that strategy, he will likely target Lawrence in the offseason. The Commanders have a ton of cap space, making it hard for Dallas to compete with them in a bidding war.
