7 Cowboys Whose Jobs Aren’t Safe After Surviving Trade Deadline
2. Ezekiel Elliott, RB
If you ask Jerry Jones, the Cowboys believe that Ezekiel Elliott's return to the franchise has been a positive experience thus far. However, any self-respecting Dallas fan knows that clearly hasn't been the case.
While you can't take away his past accomplishments, there's no denying that Elliott is currently a shell of his former self. The ex-Ohio State runner has only hit the 40-yard mark once in his first eight games while turning 54 carries into 171 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. His struggles got to the point where he was a healthy scratch for the first time in his NFL career in Week 9.
Some optimistic fans thought being scratched would lead to a turnaround, but that hasn't been the case. Elliott returned to action in Week 10 to the tune of 22 rushing yards and a fumble on six carries, further hinting that he might not be capable of holding down an NFL job any longer.
The silver lining here is that Elliott is playing on a one-year contract, meaning the Cowboys can cleanse their hands of him as soon as the season ends. As nice as it initially was to see his name back on Dallas' lineup sheet, there just isn't a good reason to justify running things back — again — in 2025.
