Cowboys Shockingly Punish Ezekiel Elliott Ahead of Week 9
The 2024 season hasn't gone the way the Dallas Cowboys envisioned thus far. They are sitting with a 3-4 record and have an NFC showdown against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Dallas is on a two-game losing streak and needs to secure a win and get back into the win column. The Cowboys will be without Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland on Sunday. Cornerback Trevon Diggs is listed as questionable with a calf injury and the losses continued on Saturday. But it was for a different reason.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer, running back Ezekiel Elliott won't be active against the Falcons and won't be making the trip due to disciplinary reasons. This is the first time in his playing career that he's a healthy scratch for a game other than a season finale.
Cowboys News: Ezekiel Elliott Won’t Play on Sunday
The Cowboys rushing attack is the worst in the NFL with a league-low 74.1 rushing yards per game with 3.4 yards per carry.
Dallas decided to bring Elliott back this offseason but he hasn't been effective at all. He has 48 carries for 149 rushing yards and one touchdown this year.
In early October, Elliott reportedly confronted coaches regarding his role within the offense. It appears things continued to swirl behind the scenes and the team had to take action. The glory days of Elliott's career are well behind him. Although the rushing attack has been a disappointment, the 29-year-old hasn't seen more than 10 carries in any game this season.
He has to feel that he can help the team more and could have expressed it, but the team feels otherwise. Rico Dowdle and Dalvin Cook will lead the backfield on Sunday while Elliott watches from home.
Just when you thought things couldn't get worse in Dallas, they did.
