Before the 2024 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys made Dak Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history, signing him to a four-year, $240 million contract extension. Things obviously didn't work out for Prescott and the Cowboys, as he was in the midst of a down season before undergoing a season-ending hamstring surgery.
While Cowboys fans are hoping to get back to winning ways with a healthy Prescott and new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the front office may have different plans. At least, that is what one sports radio host out of Cleveland is reporting.

Wild Dak Prescott Trade Rumors Suddenly Surface During Free Agency
According to the sources of Browns insider and sportscaster Bruce Drennan, there are ongoing negotiations between the Cowboys and the Browns about a Dak Prescott trade. He revealed that the trade package would be centered around talented cornerback Greg Newsome II and draft capital.
The logistical and financial elements of this trade aside, it makes some sense from Cleveland's perspective. They are desperate to win now after signing Myles Garrett to a massive contract extension, and they don't have a starting quarterback. There is a scenario in which they go all in for Prescott to get them to the playoffs.
From the Cowboys' perspective, however, such a deal makes little sense. Yes, there would be a benefit to get out of Prescott's contract before he gets to his mid-30s and start a rebuild. Yet, that is not how Jerry Jones goes about his business.
Jones notably prioritizes making the playoffs and being a competitive team, even if it hurts the team in the long run. What would be the point of trading Prescott now after the team didn't even tank down the stretch last season to maximize their draft pick?
Perhaps the trade offer from the Browns will be too good to turn down. They have made a similar move for Deshaun Watson previously, so it may not be impossible. Until it happens, however, it's best to consider it highly unlikely.
