The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2025 NFL Draft without selecting a wide receiver, leaving the fanbase frustrated and confused. Despite finding an elite pass-catcher next to CeeDee Lamb being considered a top priority by many fans, the Cowboys decided to focus elsewhere, bolstering the trenches with their first two picks.
Since then, it has been reported that the Cowboys were considering selecting WR Tetairoa McMillan in the first round, but when he was off the board by the time it was Dallas' turn at No. 12, the team went a different direction.
This meant that the Cowboys would presumably be involved in trade talks and free agency with available wide receivers. One name that has emerged recently is former Cowboy Amari Cooper.
Cooper is one of the best remaining free-agent receivers on the market. The 30-year-old finished last season with the Buffalo Bills after getting traded by the Browns midseason. After three seasons away from Dallas, Cooper is now considered a real possibility to fill the WR2 role for the Cowboys.

“As it relates to Amari Cooper, I would not be surprised if that happens.”

Yahoo Sports' senior NFL reporter Jori Epstein said on Thursday that she wouldn't be surprised if Cooper signed with the Cowboys. This was echoed by Cowboys insider Nick Harris, who said that Coop should be considered a "safe fallback option" and that mutual interest is building between the sides.

The Cowboys may be looking for potential trade candidates to see if they can find a better WR2 than Cooper, but that may be unlikely at this point in the offseason.
Cooper took a step back last season between the dysfunctional Browns offense and joining a team midseason. He had back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons before last year, and the Cowboys will hope that the five-time Pro Bowler can get back to his previous form. Playing with a quarterback he is familiar with in an organization where he had a good stint would hopefully help him get there.
