Whether or not Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it his mission to keep the Cowboys drama-free this offseason is up for debate, but he's done that well. That was until he decided to throw a bone to fans by not giving up a Maxx Crosby dream.
He made the biggest headlines when he said, "We didn't walk away," about Crosby being up for grabs after he failed his physical with the Baltimore Ravens. It's still OK for fans to dream, but don't expect much, at least not this soon. Crosby has been a thought for months, but nothing has happened.
Also, two of the Cowboys' core pass rushers, Donovan Ezeiruaku and Malachi Lawrence, are 22 and 23 years old. More than half of the Cowboys' expected starters on defense are new faces from last season. Maybe it's time to let them get a chance instead of throwing someone to the curb so early.
Cowboys should wait before making a Maxx Crosby move
You don't get opportunities every day to bring in one of the best edge rushers in the game, but the Cowboys already used up their two first-rounders on Caleb Downs and Lawrence.
But Jones looks like he's already going the route of bringing in a new generation to build off of. It's a new, young group that's capable of doing damage, and we should wait to see what happens before any trade is made. Yes, that includes dealing with Crosby.
We shouldn't go jumping on the Crosby bandwagon just yet, and patience is key to seeing what Christian Parker can do with the group he has now.
Anyway, the Cowboys need more help at linebacker than anything else. DeMarvion Overshown and Dee Winters together are a start, but can they sustain that group and ride it for the entire season? If Shemar James picks up where he left off, and Jaishawn Barham starts at a nice pace, then there's not much to worry about.
We don't want to throw Crosby to the curb completely, but a linebacker is more important than him at this point.
The thought of Crosby on the Cowboys would change the team instantly, and the NFL would be on notice for such a seismic move. They would become instant Super Bowl contenders, and even though it's a cliché thing to say, the Cowboys are truly "a Maxx Crosby away" from ending their 30-year drought.
Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark and Crosby on the same line? That would be something the Cowboys haven't seen in ages. Even the "Doomsday Defense" would have something to say about that.
