The Dallas Cowboys are riding high as of late as winners of two straight games. Dallas captured its second victory in a row on Thursday, taking down the New York Giants on Thanksgiving to improve to 5-7 and keep its playoff dreams alive.

However, things aren't going as well for several others teams around the league, including the other New York club; and the Jets were dealt some terrible news in Week 13 on a former Cowboy whose career may be at the finish line.

New York announced over the weekend that left tackle Tyron Smith is being placed on the injured reserve list due to a neck ailment. ESPN's Rich Cimini notes "neither Smith nor the Jets have disclosed the exact nature of the injury," though it was clear it was serious enough to require an extended absence.

This unfortunate development for Smith, who's struggled with health in recent years, could end up leading to the end of his NFL career. He's accomplished almost everything as a player, enjoying a 14-year run as one of the game's best while earning two First Team All-Pro nods and eight Pro Bowl selections.

Signing with the Jets, who were supposed to contend for a Super Bowl this year, was possibly Smith's last-ditch effort to earn a ring before he hung up his cleats.

With a string of injuries that have prevented him from playing more than 10 games in three of the last five seasons, it's obvious his body is wearing down, so Smith may not want to put in all of the work just to suffer another major ailment.

Of course, quality offensive line play is hard to come by, so Smith will have interest if he wants to keep playing. But the almost 34-year-old is the one who decides if his career continues into 2025.
