Brian Schottenheimer's latest mic drop proves Matt Eberflus was never the right fit

In case Cowboys fans didn't know already.

The Dallas Cowboys were in complete disarray on defense last year, as America's Team gave up 251.5 passing yards on defense. Now, with Christian Parker taking over, things are starting to come together as the rookie minicamp is underway.

Parker comes in with developing Eagles cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean into First-team All-Pro players. He's already made it clear he's going to bring his own style into the picture, but as a young coach, Parker has already built quite a resume.

Brian Schottenheimer is already boasting about his new defensive coordinator, and he already seems to be everything that Matt Eberflus wasn't. Schottenheimer says his new DC is even clocking in more minutes.

Christian Parker will make Cowboys fans forget Matt Eberflus instantly

As highlighted here again by Jon Machota of The Athletic, Parker is spending extra time after practice with Caleb Downs. Some say a picture is worth a thousand words, and Cowboys fans will love this.

This is already a sign of dedication to rebuild a defense from scratch. We're not saying Eberflus wasn't a hard worker, but Parker is fully embracing the challenge of improving one of the worst defenses in the league.

Of course, the players have to be good enough, too, so Eberflus doesn't deserve all the blame last year, but a huge portion of it was warranted. When Eberflus came in, he wouldn't have predicted his All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons would be traded before Week 1 or that Trevon Diggs hit rock bottom late last season. But the Cowboys had zero answers to stop anything.

As the Cowboys' biggest hater, Stephen A. Smith likes to say, "what can go wrong, will go wrong," and boy did it ever. No one could pressure the quarterback, and no one could cover receivers. Kenneth Murray was making wrong reads, and everything looked out of sorts.

Usually, the head coach is the first face fans will always point to, but fans had grace for Schottenheimer's first season, and Eberflus' abysmal defense overshadowed anything else. With new personnel and a fresh face as DC, along with a stud in Downs, there's no way the Cowboys can repeat last season's blunders.

The best kind of coach is the one who loves his job and embraces challenges like this defense. There's clearly a vibe shift with Parker compared to Eberflus, and Schottenheimer is already taking note of it.
