The Dallas Cowboys had one of their most intense training camp sessions over the weekend. It was reported as physical, with plenty of trash talk going back and forth as the offense and defense battled. But after practice, star wideout CeeDee Lamb was quick to defend the aggressive session.
It's the type of fire that nobody saw under Matt Eberflus. Every coach has their own philosophy to go about things, but Lamb talked about how he loved the fire the defense came out with, as it forced the offense to push through adversity. Here's what Lamb told ESPN reporterTodd Archer.
"It's fire, man. I embrace it. It was good to see our defense come out with that type of energy, that type of fire, that type of aggression early on. For us as an offense, it leaves us no choice but to bow down or fight back and get on top. And I know one thing about us, we won't bow down to nobody."
Cowboys' defense sets the tone far greater than what Matt Eberflus used to do
The Dallas defense has been nothing short of phenomenal throughout camp, according to reports. The overhaul they've made at almost every position, along with a change at defensive coordinator, has really breathed fresh life into a once-porous bunch.
Hopefully, the Matt Eberflus nightmare from last season is far away in the rearview mirror.
One of the first plays from training camp this year was Rashan Gary punching the ball away for a fumble and rookie Caleb Downs falling on top of it. Then, a week ago, cornerback addition Cobie Durant picked off Dak Prescott in the red zone. Second-year corner Shavon Revel also had a good day that session.
To be fair to Flus for a second, these are new pieces he didn't get to see. If we're being honest about Revel, he didn't have much to be excited about last year. He came off a major injury, and now, he feels like he's in another world. He's making plays in training camp and even said he can be the best CB in the NFL one day. Bold words, but no one still in recovery mode has a true mentality like that.
With Christian Parker at the helm, it’s hard not to be excited for the potential of the Cowboys’ defense. Even if they only end up in the middle of the pack statistically, it would still be a massive improvement from last year.
Lamb told the public that preparing against this defense is "annoying." Huge words that wouldn't have been said last season, and a large part of that is the change from Eberflus to Parker.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the wholesale changes make a difference or if Dallas falls flat on their face yet again defensively.
