The Dallas Cowboys got their hands on one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Shavon Revel looked like a first-round-caliber guy at East Carolina, but a season-ending injury caused him to slip to the third round.

Revel didn't play much as a rookie. He had to work his way back from injury, and the season was pretty much a wrap by the time he was able to make his debut. Moreover, he struggled mightily to find his footing in his first handful of games.

Now, he's looking forward to putting his woes behind him. With a full offseason program and training camp to get his legs back under him, his confidence isn't wavering, as he told Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

“I am going to be, someday, the best cornerback in the league,” Revel said. “That’s just how I look at it, and I have the confidence to say it. At the end of the day, I got to work.”

Shavon Revel says he can be the best cornerback in the NFL at some point

Before his injury, he wasn't the only one who felt that way. Of course, that's a bold prediction to make, given the surplus of talent at cornerback, but at the very least, he has the skill set and athleticism to crack the top five if things go his way.

The first thing, however, will be to find some consistency. The Cowboys hired Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator, and having a former defensive back coach lead the way should work wonders for his development.

All in all, Revel's rookie season was essentially a red-shirt year. He missed the offseason program, half of his rookie campaign and played in a scheme that didn't favor him for one of the worst defenses in recent NFL history. The outlook is looking much better for him in year two.

Revel has a prototypical cornerback body with outstanding athleticism and body control. He must work on his technique and tackling, but the physical tools are there, and the Cowboys will be wise to let him grow through his mistakes to fulfill his true potential.

So far, he's logged a total of 35 tackles (23 solo), one tackle for loss, and three pass breakups. He allowed 28 completions on 38 targets (73.7 percent) for 311 yards, three touchdowns, and an opposing 126.1 passer rating.

That said, it's almost impossible to blame anyone for how things went with Matt Eberflus on defense. He deserves some slack, and while his play might have a tough time cashing in the checks his mouth is writing, it's nice to know that a tough time as a rookie didn't break his stride.
