The Dallas Cowboys' decision to promote Brian Schottenheimer from offensive coordinator to head coach has been a lightning rod for criticism. While some Cowboys supporters are optimistic to see what Schottenheimer can do with the reins, others are worried that the first-time HC doesn't have what it takes to end the franchise's Super Bowl drought.

Although the reaction to the Schottenheimer has been mixed, one NFL owner has made it clear he doesn't think the Cowboys could've made a better coaching hire.

Cowboys News: Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt Praises Brian Schottenheimer

As his Kansas City Chiefs prepare for another Super Bowl appearance, owner Clark Hunt told reporters in New Orleans that he's a big fan of the Cowboys' decision to promote Schottenheimer.

"I’m so glad that Brian Schottenheimer is getting a chance to lead (the Cowboys)," Hunt said, according to Dallas Morning News' David Moore. "We got to know Brian when his dad was coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s somebody we thought quite a bit about as a young man. I’m glad he’s getting that opportunity."

Hunt is more than familiar with Schottenheimer after the latter's father, Marty, coached the Chiefs from 1989 to 1998. Kansas City went 101-58-9 while making the playoffs seven times under his watch, including a 1993 AFC Championship Game appearance. It was one of the franchise's most successful stretches before Andy Reid came to town in 2013.

As for the younger Schottenheimer, he's stayed away from the Chiefs aside from a one-year run as a coaching assistant 27 years ago. Even though that was a lifetime ago, the Cowboys head coach did enough to make a lasting impression on the Kansas City owner.

"(Brian) was one of those young men who was a student of the game from a very young age," Hunt said. "He was a talented high school player and a good college player and really loves the sport. “I think he’ll do a great job."

The Denver, CO native takes over the reins following an abysmal 2024 season that saw the Cowboys go 7-10, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Only time will tell if Hunt is correct and that Schottenheimer is the right man to help bring America's Team back to championship glory.
