Cowboy Defender Returns to Practice Field After Extended Absence
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off their bye week that took place in Week 7. That came at an ideal time, as the Cowboys were dealing with injuries and an embarrassing loss at home against the Detroit Lions the week prior.
The Cowboys have a primetime battle against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football. Although the arrow isn't pointing up for Micah Parsons returning to action on Sunday, another Dallas defender returned to the practice field on Wednesday.
Cowboys News: Dallas Opened up Jordan Phillips Practice Window
According to Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys decided to open up Jordan Phillips' 21-day practice window. Per the team's injury report posted online, Phillips was a full participant on Wednesday.
On Sept. 18, Phillips was placed on IR after he suffered a wrist injury. The Oklahoma product had surgery last year after dislocating his right wrist, and things had resurfaced. He was acquired from the New York Giants on Aug. 15 and provided Dallas with a run stuffer in the middle of the defensive line.
The team now has three weeks to evaluate Phillips to either activate him to the active roster or end his season.
Being a full participant is a great sign. Dallas has been slammed with injuries along the defensive front with Parsons out while DeMarcus Lawrence and Marshawn Kneeland were placed on IR.
The Cowboys are 27th in the NFL in run defense (143.2), and Phillips would help with that. In his career, the 32-year-old has 182 total tackles and 36 tackles for loss. Dallas may be getting reinforcements along the trenches soon and they need it.
