Cowboys Admit Big Draft Mistake in Latest Free Agency Projection

The Dallas Cowboys bring in competition for a recent draft pick in the latest offseason prediction.

The Dallas Cowboys recently turned their season around but it was unfortunately too little, too late. Despite winning four out of their last five games, the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs over the weekend. As a result, fans started to look ahead to the offseason and the 2025 campaign.

The next head coach and what roster upgrades the front office will make are on every Cowboys fan's mind. Bleacher Report is doing the same exercise and making draft and free agency predictions for every team in the NFL. In their latest article, B/R has the Cowboys targeting free agent left tackle Cam Robinson of the Minnesota Vikings.

Robinson is a competent veteran who could give the Cowboys high-level tackle play, but investing resources into a left tackle a season after drafting Tyler Guyton in the first round wouldn't look good for the front office.

"Tyler Guyton struggled this season, especially in pass protection. While the rookie could turn it around in year two, Dallas should consider bringing in a veteran for some competition at left tackle."

When the Cowboys used their 29th overall pick on Guyton, he was seen as a raw prospect with little playing experience. He would take some time to develop. However, the Cowboys threw him in at the deep end, giving him ten starts and playing him 68% of offensive snaps.

Naturally, the 22-year-old rookie struggled. He was filling in Tyron Smith's big shoes, after all. The former Oklahoma standout has a disappointing 49.4 grade on PFF this season.

Replacing Guyton with a veteran makes sense, especially for a team with playoff aspirations. However, starting him for a full year and benching him doesn't send a good message to Guyton.

Cam Robinson was traded to the Vikings at the 2024 trade deadline after spending the first seven and a half seasons of his career in Jacksonville. He is hitting free agency after the three-year contract extension worth $54 million he signed back in 2022 is up after this season.
