The Dallas Cowboys are looking to get back into the postseason next season after an underwhelming 2024 campaign.

The Cowboys are focused on the 2025 NFL Draft, where they have ten total draft picks. They will use these assets to upgrade the team, but one of the biggest storylines is around the contract of Micah Parsons.

Parsons is eligible for an extension, but the latest update on that front isn't positive. On Tuesday, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones was asked about Parsons' contract situation, and his response wasn't overly confident.

He said, "It comes with the territory. … Right now there is a difference in what we feel is the right number and what he feels is the right number.”

Cowboys and Micah Parsons Aren’t Close on New Deal

This statement from Jones highlights that the Cowboys aren't willing to offer the money that he's looking for. Earlier this offseason, the Cleveland Browns and EDGE Myles Garrett agreed to terms on a four-year, $160 million extension that includes $123 million fully guaranteed. He's now the highest-paid defender in the league, and Parsons will certainly look to shatter that mark.

Through four seasons in the league, Parsons has been one of the best pass rushers in the league. He's a four-time Pro Bowler, two-time First-Team All-Pro, and one-time second-team All-Pro.

In 63 career games, the Penn State product has compiled 256 total tackles, 112 QB hits, 63 TFLs, and 52.5 sacks.

Parsons is a true definition of a game wrecker, and that kind of player gets paid handsomely. Parsons doesn't look like he'll be taking any type of discount. Even though no numbers have been revealed, we can infer that Parsons wants to pass Garrett for the highest-paid pass rusher in the league, and that number will exceed $40 million.

While the Cowboys may want to play hardball, they would be smart to get something done sooner rather than later. Parsons is the type of player you build around and pay. Not the other way around.
