Much like the rest of the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys have used the 2025 offseason to make some big changes to their roster. It's important for America's Team to be good enough to compete in the same division as the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, who faced each other in the 2024-25 NFC Championship Game.
Dallas knows they can't mess around, and that led to them trading for wide receiver George Pickens. Despite playing zero snaps for this team yet, Pickens is already looking like a great addition to the team.
Cowboys WR George Pickens Is Already a Fantastic Addition in Dallas
The Cowboys badly needed another wideout opposite CeeDee Lamb, and Pickens fits like a glove. Despite only being a part of organized team activities and minicamp, Pickens has been an offseason standout, impressing everyone from the fans to quarterback Dak Prescott since coming to Dallas.
In a minicamp practice, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Pickens had five catches. Tommy Yarrish of the team's website also said that Pickens was unguardable in that same session. He continued the stellar play, as the veteran playmaker made multiple catches in the next practice, including a two-point conversion on a corner route.
Joining the Cowboys will mark Pickens' first time alongside a weapon like Lamb, and that will create favorable matchups for the pair. As for Lamb, Pickens is the best WR he's played with since Amari Cooper in 2021, so it's safe to say he's excited, too.
Another underrated element to this acquisition is that Pickens is entering the last year of his rookie deal and is looking to cash in next offseason, so he's motivated. In three seasons (48 games), the Georgia product has snagged 174 catches (293 targets) for 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
Pickens is a pass-catcher who excels in contested catch situations and isn't afraid to be physical. These are things that the offense was lacking and can elevate them to another tier.
Cowboys training camp begins on July 21 at Staybridge Suites in Oxnard, Calif. This will be the next opportunity for Pickens to build off what he did in the spring. His talent is undeniable, and that's a big reason Dallas decided to trade for him.
There's no doubt that Pickens will be effective in Dallas, but it looks like he's going to have a bigger impact than fans of America's Team even imagine.
