The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2025 season with a lot of intrigue surrounding them as they have a new head coach in Brian Schottenheimer and a talented roster that should compete for an NFC East title.
However, as we know with the Cowboys, it's never that simple. Despite having all that talent on both sides of the ball, it's Schottenheimer's first NFL head coaching gig, and not to mention, star Micah Parsons still hasn’t gotten paid yet.
Additionally, Dallas has a couple of positions on their roster that leave much to be desired, such as running back and cornerback. The cornerback room is loaded with names like DaRon Bland, Trevon Diggs, Shavon Revel (rookie), and Kaiir Elam (former first-round pick).
When healthy, the Cowboys could have one of the best cornerback rooms in the league. But it's unclear if Diggs and Revel will be ready when Week 1 rolls around.
That said, Elam has reportedly made the most of his opportunities in OTAs and minicamp, which is a good sign for Dallas, as he could start opposite Bland if necessary. Therefore, it would leave the CB3 spot up for grabs for someone else on the roster or a free agent.
It was another good day for Cowboys CB Kaiir Elam. Seems to be fitting in well and has found some early confidence on the grass. pic.twitter.com/LYVleTmnhQ

Andrew Booth Jr. May Be on the Chopping Block for Dallas
Given the talent left in free agency at cornerback, it would not be shocking to see Dallas go that route for more, which would be bad news for former second-round pick Andrew Booth Jr.
The Cowboys acquired Booth Jr. for Nahshon Wright last summer in a trade from the Minnesota Vikings. The young cornerback appeared in seven games last season in Dallas and made two starts.
Booth tallied 15 combined tackles and a pass deflection. According to PFF, the 24-year-old defender also had a 35.6 overall grade (213th out of 222 cornerbacks) and a 28.7 coverage grade (219th). However, he was surprisingly better in run defense with a 79.5 grade (21st).
That said, the Cowboys would love to see that coverage grade improve drastically. Last year, Booth had an 80.0 completion percentage allowed on targets, a 158.3 pass rating allowed when targeted, and gave up two receiving TDs.
OTAs and minicamp are a good place to do that, but Booth was reportedly among the players who did not practice last week, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
With Elam standing out and several vets still on the open market, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Dallas move on from Booth. The Cowboys didn’t give up much for him, as they traded another depth cornerback. It’s also worth mentioning that Booth is entering the final year of his rookie deal as he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
