The Dallas Cowboys are looking to become a contender again in the NFC East this season and they’ll hope a cast of new faces will get them there. Brian Schottenheimer is the most notable change after taking over for Mike McCarthy but Dallas will have plenty of other new arrivals with six new players currently ticketed for starting roles according to the unofficial depth chart.

While one new addition isn’t set to start, he’s already acclimated himself during last week’s minicamp. With the offseason program over, he took some time to cross an item off his bucket list and displayed a hidden talent over the weekend.

Cowboys DT Solomon Thomas Makes Cameo in Broadway Play ‘MJ’

Cowboys defensive tackle Solomon Thomas headed back to New York to kick off the period between minicamp and training camp on Friday night. As a former member of the New York Jets, it wasn’t surprising that Thomas headed back to the Big Apple, but his activities were outside the box as he made a cameo in the broadway musical MJ.

“I cannot think of a better way to celebrate my time in New York than making my Broadway debut!” Thomas said in a recent statement. “I am so grateful to MJ for making this dream come true and for the support over the past few years. It’s truly an honor to be able to witness the greatness of these performers.”

According to an article by Playbill’s Andrew Gans, Thomas became an avid supporter of Broadway during his time with the Jets, acting as a theatre correspondent for CBS and a presenter at last year’s Tony Awards. MJ, which is a musical based on the life of pop icon Michael Jackson, became one of his favorite shows that he attended six times and even brought his teammates along for one showing as featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks.

“Solly has been such a great supporter and friend of Broadway and our show,” MJ producer Lia Vollack told Playbill. “We couldn’t think of a better way to thank him for his time in New York – giving him his Broadway debut.”

While it’s a totally different play, the Cowboys are hoping that Thomas doesn’t miss his shot in Dallas when he reports to training camp. The third overall pick in the 2017 draft, Thomas spent the first four years of his career in San Francisco before spending the 2021 season with the Las Vegas Raiders and the past three seasons with the New York Jets.

Thomas carved out a role as a pass-rushing specialist during his time in New York, collecting 8.5 sacks over the past two seasons and is capable of playing along the defensive line in Matt Eberflus’s defense. After telling Cowboys team reporter Tommy Yarrish that he wants to build “something legendary” in Dallas, Thomas will look to serve in a reserve role behind Osa Odighizuwa and earn his own spotlight when he takes the field in a few weeks.
