It isn't a secret that the Dallas Cowboys experienced a lot more bad than good throughout the 2024 NFL season. Several factors went into the team's disappointing performance, including a long list of injuries that were a constant source of frustration for Cowboys fans across the country.
DeMarvion Overshown is one player who Cowboys fans are hoping experiences a healthier run in 2025. After missing his entire rookie year with a torn ACL, the former 2023 second-round pick had his second NFL campaign cut short when he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in Week 14's 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Overshown has since spent a lot of time recovering from his injury. All seems to be going well so far, especially judging by the goal that the third-year pass rusher just set for himself for the 2025 season.
Cowboys News: DeMarvion Overshown Targeting Comeback Player of the Year Award
The NFL hands out various player awards at the end of every season, including Comeback Player of the Year to an individual who's overcome the biggest obstacles. After suffering back-to-back major knee injuries, Overshown has made it clear on the NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" that he wants to take home 2025 CPOY honors.
"Not only do I want to be nominated for the Comeback Player of the Year but I'm going to be the Comeback Player of the Year," Overshown said in Friday's interview (h/t @Brandoniswrite). "(I'm) confident in how I feel with how I'm just going to step back onto the field. You're not going to see no drop-off."

Since the honor was reintroduced in 1998, former defensive end Greg Ellis is the only Cowboy to have been named Comeback Player of the Year. The former 1998 first-rounder had a career year in 2007 after tearing his Achilles the previous season, registering a personal-best 12.5 sacks and his only Pro Bowl nod.
Winning the CPOY award won't be easy, especially with the competition Overshown will be facing around the league. Having said that, the ex-Texas Longhorn could wind up being the frontrunner for the award if he successfully replicates and improves on his 2024 production.
Making 12 starts in 13 appearances last season, Overshown finished his first full NFL campaign with 56 solo tackles, five sacks, four broken-up passes, one forced fumble, and an interception that he returned for a 23-yard touchdown against the rival New York Giants in Week 13.
Although his 61.6 Pro Football Focus defense grade wasn't anything to write home about, Overshown's 78.9 grade as a pass rusher was the 11th-best effort among 189 linebackers.
Aside from the physical recovery, Overshown's biggest hurdle toward a successful comeback will be the Cowboys' new-look coaching staff. Former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is now the head coach, while Matt Eberflus has also joined the staff, marking the third straight year that Overshown will be playing under a new defensive coordinator.
A full recovery combined with immediately adapting to the new staff will be key to Overshown returning to form come September. The dynamic disruptor's potential bounce-back performance would also help the Cowboys surpass their projected 2025 win total, which currently sits at 7.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook with the Under being favored at -120 odds.
