Cowboys Get Massive Good News on Player Out for Season
The Dallas Cowboys' defense was dealt a devastating blow last week when it was announced that linebacker DeMarvion Overshown's campaign was over due to injury.
On Dec. 10, ESPN's Todd Archer confirmed that Overshown suffered ACL, MCL, and PCL tears during Week 14's 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. It's the second year in a row that the ex-2023 third-rounder's season prematurely ended because of an injury, leaving Cowboys fans to wonder how long it'll take Overshown to make a full recovery.
Although it'll be some time before the 24-year-old defender returns to the gridiron, the Cowboys received a promising update on Wednesday regarding his recovery.
Cowboys Injury News: DeMarvion Overshown Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery
Sources close to NFL insider Jordan Schultz have revealed that Overshown has successfully undergone knee surgery and can now start working towards his eventual return.
The good news didn't stop there, though. Schultz added that "there's hope (Overshown) could return by mid-to-late next season." That's an encouraging update given that Cowboys reporter Brandon Loree hinted that the second-year defender could miss up to a year of action on Dec. 15.
Whenever Overshown does return to action, the Cowboys are hoping that he can pick up from where he left off when that happens.
After missing the entire 2023 campaign with a torn ACL, the ex-Texas Longhorn looked right at home with the Cowboys this season. Before his injury, Overshown had racked up 56 solo tackles, five sacks, four broken-up passes, one interception, and a forced fumble in 13 games, cementing himself as one of Dallas' best linebackers.
He's also earned a reputation as one of the NFL's most impactful disruptors this season, ranking eighth out of 42 eligible LBs on Pro Football Focus when it comes to pass rush grades (78.9).
With Overshown's season over, look for fellow LB Marist Liufau to fill his void. The rookie defender played a season-high 48 defensive snaps with Overshown out of the lineup last week, resulting in five total tackles and his first-ever forced fumble in the Cowboys' 30-14 win against the Carolina Panthers.
Time will tell how America's Team handles Overshown's absence when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit AT&T Stadium in Week 16. It's shaping up to be another uphill battle for the Cowboys, who are 3.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook.
