The Dallas Cowboys returned to the win column in Week 15 with a convincing 30-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

America's Team earned its sixth victory of the campaign without star cornerback Trevon Diggs, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. While any sort of knee injury is concerning, Cowboys fans are more than worried about Diggs' situation given that he just missed the majority of the 2023 campaign with a torn ACL.

On Monday, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones shared an update on the 26-year-old's situation. Unfortunately, it wasn't the most promising piece of news.

Cowboys' Stephen Jones Shares Trevon Diggs Injury Update

Appearing on 105.3 The Fan on Monday afternoon, Jones discussed the nature of Diggs' injury, revealing that the veteran CB had been dealing with this ailment throughout the season.

"(Diggs) was having to play with fluid in his knee," Jones said, per Cowboys insider Jon Machota. "He was out there doing everything he can because he wants to play, he wants to compete, he wants to contribute."

Like most NFL players, Diggs is competitive by nature and wants to do nothing but help the Cowboys win, even if the current season has left much to be desired. Nonetheless, his new cartilage-related injury could keep him off the field until next fall.

"I don’t think he’ll be a player during training camp," Jones revealed about Diggs. "I think his timeline is going to be right about the start of the season."

It's now the second year in a row that Diggs' season has ended early due to injury. He managed to suit up for 11 games this season after playing just two in 2023, tallying 35 solo tackles, 11 defended passes, and two interceptions. According to Pro Football Focus, he also played to grades of 56.6 and 60.3 in terms of overall defense and coverage, respectively.

Hopefully, Diggs will experience a full recovery so that he can contribute in 2025 and beyond. The former Alabama CB is still under contract through the 2028 season after signing a five-year, $97 million contract with the Cowboys last summer, and is one of the NFL's best ballhawks when healthy, proven by his Pro Bowl nominations in 2021 and 2022.

As Diggs recovers, the Cowboys will look to improve their long-shot playoff odds when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Week 16's Sunday Night Football tilt. Although it's still early, FanDuel Sportsbook has already listed the Buccaneers as the 3.5-point favorites at AT&T Stadium this weekend.
