The Dallas Cowboys made an interesting choice when choosing to pay CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott before Micah Parsons. There still isn't a deal done, with things continuing to be dramatic in typical Cowboys offseason style. Much of this has been due to Jerry Jones' decision to take a shot at the agent of his best player. This is an odd strategy and one that could end badly for the Cowboys. In a division with the Eagles and Commanders being above average is no longer going to cut it. This opens up the possibility that Dallas opts to take drastic action.

The franchise opting to add George Pickens does show a continued wish to contend. However, the path is extremely limited in what is arguably the best division in football. With this in mind, one possible path the Cowboys might take is looking to turn superstar defender Micah Parsons into a trade chip and cashing in on the ensuing bidding war that is to come.

The Cowboys Must Consider Parting Ways with Micah Parsons

Jerry Jones remains the biggest roadblock to a deal getting done after taking a shot at Parsons in the offseason. Add in the defender's want to be the highest paid at his position, and the fit is far too complicated to work out well. Yes, the Cowboys can pay a trio of Prescott, Lamb, and Parsons all top dollar. The problem with this path is a lack of any cap space to make needed improvements and attempt to pass a young Commanders team or the hated Eagles.

All of this sets up a complicated decision the Cowboys could simplify by trading Parsons for a package of players and picks. The defender has an argument as the best defensive piece in the league and expects to be paid as such. While this is a fair expectation, it isn't realistic to believe you can have three players at the top of the league in pay scale and be anything but average.

This isn't to say that Parsons and the Cowboys are clearly headed for divorce. Dak Prescott appeared to be walking this path and signed an extension at the last possible minute. This could be where things are heading for the star Dallas defender. However, the franchise has to at least consider what a potential trade package could look like and whether this might prove to be the superior avenue to take.
