Cowboys Get Further Bad News on Trevon Diggs’ 2025 Outlook

The Dallas Cowboys received some terrible news regarding CB Trevon Diggs' recovery timeline, which appears to be longer than expected.

The Dallas Cowboys' cornerback room was dealt a massive blow last week.

With the regular season winding down, the Cowboys announced that star cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Week 14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Shortly after the injury was announced, executive vice president Stephen Jones revealed that Diggs likely wouldn't be ready to return until after training camp.

Starting the 2025 season without the two-time Pro Bowl CB is the last thing that the Cowboys wanted. Unfortunately, it looks like America's Team could be without Diggs for longer than anticipated.

Cowboys News: Trevon Diggs' Knee Injury More Serious Than Expected

On Saturday, Cowboys Wire's Todd Brock shared some updates regarding Diggs' upcoming surgery and outlook after the procedure.

According to Brock, the former Alabama CB "will require a bone graft to address cartilage damage" and that the procedure "will prolong his recovery time." The Cowboys had initially hoped to see Diggs back in the fold early next season, however, Saturday's update "makes that timetable extraordinarily unlikely."

Diggs' new outlook seems to line up with the expectations that Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr. shared on Dec. 16.

"This is a serious knee injury," Hill wrote. "(Diggs) could possibly miss most of next season."

Even if the exact timetable is currently unknown, it's clear that the Cowboys are going to be without Diggs for quite some time. He's one of the team's most important defenders, leaving time to tell how the remaining defensive backs will fill the void in his absence.

Diggs' latest injury comes after he missed the majority of the 2023 campaign with an ACL tear. He worked hard to recover the issue and it paid off, leading to a solid performance of 35 solo tackles, 11 broken-up passes, and two interceptions in 11 games this season.

The Cowboys are hoping that Diggs will make a full recovery from another season-ending injury before picking up from where he left off. The two-time Pro Bowl defender has been one of the NFL's best cornerbacks since he joined the league and was rewarded for that in July 2023 when he signed a five-year contract worth up to more than $100 million.

In the meantime, Diggs will cheer from the sidelines when the Cowboys welcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to AT&T Stadium on Sunday. It's too bad the home team won't have the stud CB's help for this one as the Cowboys are currently 4-point underdogs to the Buccaneers on DraftKings Sportsbook.
