Cowboys Get Huge Micah Parsons Update Immediately Following Dak Prescott Injury News

On Monday, the Dallas Cowboys learned that they'd be without QB Dak Prescott for a while. Fortunately, the latest Micah Parsons injury news should soften the blow.

It hasn't been a great start to the week for the Dallas Cowboys.

After Sunday's disappointing 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Cowboys learned that quarterback Dak Prescott will be temporarily sidelined with a hamstring injury. Although the veteran gunslinger has yet to be placed on the injured reserve, all signs point to Prescott missing "multiple weeks," according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

With the Cowboys sitting at 3-5 ahead of a looming Week 9 showdown with the rival Philadelphia Eagles, Prescott's injury couldn't have happened at a worse time. Fortunately, another key Dallas difference-maker could be ready to return to action before the franchise's outlook worsens.

Cowboys Injury News: Micah Parsons Could Return in Week 10

NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that Micah Parsons "should be back" when the Cowboys host the Eagles on Sunday. The three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher has been on the sidelines since Week 4 as he continues to battle back from a high ankle sprain.

Parsons, 25, is the Cowboys' best defender and it's not surprising to see that the defense has struggled in his absence. Dallas went from surrendering 26.0 points per game when Parsons was healthy from Weeks 1 to 4 to surrendering 30.5 PPG across their last four outings.

Parsons has been one of the NFL's most dominant forces since being drafted 12th overall in 2021. Since then, the former Penn State defender racked up at least 13.0 sacks in each of his first three seasons while finishing third or better in the Defensive Player of the Year voting each campaign.

Cowboys fans are used to Parsons racking up big numbers, which is why his 2024 performance thus far has caught some supporters off guard. While he managed to amass 11 solo tackles and a broken-up pass in his first four games, his one sack during that stretch only puts him on pace for four during a 17-game season.

But even if the sack totals haven't been there, Parsons is still making a positive impact on the defensive side of the ball. He's currently Pro Football Focus' No. 11-graded edge defender in terms of pass rushing (82.8) and No. 13 regarding overall defense (82.4), proving that box score stats don't always tell the full story.

Even if he isn't 100%, the Cowboys certainly need Parsons' help this weekend. Following the Prescott injury news, America's Team is projected to be 6.5-point underdogs when they host the Eagles at AT&T Stadium this Sunday, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
