The Dallas Cowboys already have a quarterback. However, for years, the narrative around Dak Prescott has made it as if Jerry Jones would get a head start at the first opportunity to find his replacement.
Certainly, Jerry Jones hasn't done much to change that narrative. While he's often praised, his pursuit of project quarterbacks like Trey Lance and Joe Milton has hinted to fans that Jones doesn't see Prescott as a long-term solution.
Considering that, Cowboys insider Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan argued that they might want to take a look at the whole Brendan Sorsby situation. Talking to Jeff Cavanaugh on 'Trust The Tape,' he argued the Cowboys could be interested in the Texas Tech product.
The Cowboys might consider making a run at Brendan Sorsby
"I think his ability to run around, his ability to run with toughness -- he's got some Josh Allen to him with the way he plays with the physicality," Broaddus said. "And he can throw the ball enough, too. I think someone's gonna use a second-round pick on him, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Dallas Cowboys did it."
Of course, insider or not, there hasn't been any official information coming from the team. In fact, head coach Brian Schottenheimer didn't want to dig too much into the story, though he didn't shut down the possibility either (h/t Tommy Yarrish).
"I know it's a big storyline, I haven't followed it much," Schottenheimer said. "I'm aware just enough to be dangerous. I really don't have any honest opinions. If we get to the point where we're interested, then certainly I'll have an opinion. But as of now, it doesn't affect my life, and I'm focused on the 90 guys that have been here."
From a football standpoint, the Cowboys, like many other teams, should definitely consider making a run at him. He's a first-round-caliber talent who will be available at a discount, and even if they trust Prescott -- which they should -- he has a higher upside.
That said, whoever gets their hands on Sorsby would be sending the wrong kind of message. He's a human being and has a right to make mistakes, but he committed the ultimate sin in professional sports, and rewarding him with an NFL career might set a dangerous precedent.
More than that, the Cowboys are already under enough pressure. They're always heavily scrutinized, and every move they make -- or don't -- is often over-analyzed. This type of attention and distraction is the last thing they need right now, even for someone who believes all publicity is good publicity, such as Jerry Jones.
Sorsby is a very talented prospect who may have a bright future in the league, and the Cowboys would be fortunate to have him. Still, some things are bigger than football, and it seems like they would be making this move just for the sake of it.
He'll likely be suspended for the entire 2026 season, yet the Cowboys PR team may have a nightmare keeping his name out of the press room. The Sorsby news will also take a toll on the team's relationship with their incumbent quarterback. As appealing as this thought might be, the Cowboys should just stick to their plan and let Sorsby be someone else's problem.
