The Dallas Cowboys are coming off their bye to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8. They will follow that with a trip to Atlanta and two home games against the Eagles and the Texans. Things could turn ugly for the 3-3 Cowboys during that tough slate of games.

So, naturally, Cowboys fans were hoping for a more action-filled bye week. While some contenders made blockbuster trades for Davante Adams and Amari Cooper, the Cowboys decided to stand pat.

Then, another perfect potential Cowboys target found a new home. On Wednesday morning, it was reported that the Kansas City Chiefs were trading for DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans for a conditional fourth-round pick.

After Brandin Cooks landed on the injured reserve list, many had assumed that there would be a move for a wide receiver in Dallas. Instead, the Cowboys are trusting their internal development and going with Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, and KaVontae Turpin.

That plan hasn't paid dividends thus far. Dallas hasn't scored over 20 points in the last three games and things took a particularly bleak turn in the 47-9 loss against the Lions in Week 6.

The Cowboys already have one of the worst rushing offenses in the league. They rank dead last in yards per carry, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns.

To compensate, they need more juice in the passing game. However, they don't have the elite talent besides CeeDee Lamb to truly be a scary offense. If Jerry Jones continues to keep his powder dry and not trade for a wide receiver, it will be hard for the Cowboys to reach that next level this season.
