The Dallas Cowboys are laser-focused on the 2025 season and seeking to improve their record from 2024. The NFL Draft gave the Cowboys the perfect chance to add young talent to the roster ,and they did exactly that with their nine selections.

They also signed multiple undrafted free agents and invited a couple of other guys for a workout. Dallas will begin rookie minicamp on May 2, and it will run through May 5. This gives rookies their first chance to impress the coaching staff ahead of the season, and RB Jaydon Blue could be someone who turns heads by the end of the weekend.

Cowboys Rookie Jaydon Blue Could Impress Right Out of the Gate

Blue was selected with the 149th overall pick in the fifth round. Although he likely won't be the starter on Day 1, he gives them something this backfield lacks. Dallas signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders this offseason, but neither of these guys possesses the speed that Blue can bring.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Blue ran a 4.38 40-yard dash. Williams is known for being a bruising type of runner, while Sanders doesn't have much speed. In addition to the speed and quickness he brings onto the gridiron, Blue has secure hands coming out of the backfield.

Last season with the Texas Longhorns, Blue put up career highs in rushing yards (730), receiving yards (368), and total touchdowns (14). Despite being drafted on Day 3, there's a clear pathway to having a serious role in the backfield.

Even though we are five months away from the start of the regular season, this is the time to start putting yourself on the map. While they'll do some light on-field work, stepping up in meetings and the weight room are two areas where Blue can stand out even more.

The Cowboys like what he brings to the field, and that's why they drafted him. Rookie minicamp is a golden opportunity for Blue to get on the good side of the coaching staff so he has a chance to start OTAs and training camp on the right foot.
