The Dallas Cowboys have made some moves along their coaching staff this week. After naming Brian Schottenheimer as the tenth head coach in team history, the additions to his staff trickled in.

They named Matt Eberflus as the new defensive coordinator, replacing Mike Zimmer. Shortly after, Dallas made Aaron Whitecotton their new defensive line coach.

With Whitecotton in the fold, the chances that EDGE Carl Lawson returns have improved. The two were together with the New York Jets from 2021-2023. In a clip that has resurfaced online, Whitecotton is seen raving about Lawson back in 2022.

Cowboys News: Aaron Whitecotton Speaks Highly About Carl Lawson

During an interview with Jets senior reporter Eric Allen, Whitecotton said great things about the Auburn product. Whitecotton noted that Lawson is constantly trying to improve and sharpen his craft.

He is always looking at other players around the league and implementing some of their moves into his game. Whitecotton added that he and Lawson would be texting each other about film, and that's a dream for a coach.

Lawson's tenure in New York didn't end on a high note. He tore his Achilles in 2021 and wasn't the same player with the Jets. In 23 games with New York, Lawson had 38 total tackles and seven sacks.

Even though his production wasn't high with the Jets, he played well in his opportunities with the Cowboys in 2024. Across 15 games (3 starts), Lawson had 15 total tackles, four TFLs, 15 QB hits, and five sacks.

He's going to be a free agent come March but with Whitecotton on the staff, there's a good chance he vouches for Dallas to retain him. Lawson was third on the team in sacks and showed he regained some of the juice that he lost in New York.
