Matt Eberflus Makes 1st Big Hire for Cowboys Staff

The Dallas Cowboys are in full revamping mode of their coaching staff. After announcing Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, much to the frustration of the fanbase, the Cowboys are continuing to fill the rest of his staff. Earlier this week, they hired former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus as the defensive coordinator.
On Wednesday, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reported that the Cowboys are hiring Aaron Whitecotton as their new defensive line coach.
Cowboys Hire Aaron Whitecotton as Their New Defensive Line Coach
This is a solid addition to the Cowboys' coaching staff. Whitecotton has been on the shortlist of multiple teams this offseason, including the Packers. He interviewed in Green Bay earlier in the month but the Cowboys seemed to have acted quicker in landing the coveted coach.
Whitecotton has been credited with the development of the Jets' young talent during his four-year tenure there. He was considered one of the standout coaches on the Jets that the team considered retaining under new head coach Aaron Glenn.
Whitecotton began his NFL coaching career in 2013 as a defensive assistant with the Jaguars. After four seasons in Jacksonville, he spent some time with the Bills as an assistant defensive line coach before joining the 49ers in the same role in 2020. After one season in San Francisco, he was hired in New York and has been there ever since.
The Cowboys hired special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen earlier in the week and are still looking for their next offensive coordinator. While that big decision will be a big factor in how Cowboys fans feel about next season, the defensive side of the ball seems to be coming together in Dallas.
