Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy's seat became even hotter with Week 11's 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans. The loss dropped the Cowboys' record to 3-7 on the season, all but confirming that America's Team likely won't be a participant in the 2024-25 postseason.

Even though owner/general manager Jerry Jones has lamented that there won't be an in-season coaching change, that hasn't stopped Dallas supporters from demanding McCarthy's job. It's clear that the 60-year-old head coach isn't the man to end the Super Bowl drought and part of the fanbase believes it's better to start searching for his replacement now.

It's at the point where even the franchise's former players want to see change. Over the weekend, one ex-Cowboys legend made it clear who he wants to see replace McCarthy.

Cowboys News: Michael Irvin Begs Jerry Jones to Hire Deion Sanders

Before Friday's Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match, which took place at AT&T Stadium, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin appeared alongside Jones, sharing his belief in who should be the team's next head coach: Deion Sanders.

"I give (Jake Paul) respect like I give my great guy Deion Sanders, who didn't go the normal route," Irvin said on the pre-show panel. "Who I'm gonna be in Jerry's ear about later. That's just something else we're talking about."

It didn't take long for Irvin to add more fuel to the fire. Following the Cowboys' loss to the Texans, "Playmaker" took to social media on Tuesday morning to further emphasize what he wants America's Team to do next.

"I spent Friday night with Jerry Jones. I spent Saturday with Deion Sanders," Irvin posted to X. "I spent Sunday with the lord PRAYING for ???? ????? (GUEST WHAT)."

"Now after what the Cowboys ⁦⁩looked like on Monday Night Football, I must work harder!!!!!"

With players-turned-coaches rising in popularity across the NFL, isn't surprising that Irvin and some Cowboys fans want to see Sanders replace McCarthy. The former defensive back is a franchise fan favorite and has done a terrific job at turning the University of Colorado's football program around.

Is Deion Sanders Interested in Cowboys Coaching Job?

As much as fans would love to see Sanders return to Big D, it might take some convincing to do. The 57-year-old college coach told Irvin on Nov. 12 that he loves coaching in Colorado and that he doesn't have much of a desire to work at the NFL level.

On top of that, NFL insider Conor Orr reported a few days after that that there isn't any real traction behind Sanders potentially moving back to the Lone Star State.

"I have not been alerted to any seriousness regarding a Deion Sanders and Jerry Jones reunion," Orr reported for Sports Illustrated on Nov. 14.

It's going to be interesting to see which direction the Cowboys go in when it comes to the next head coach. Jones is clearly a fan of hiring familiar faces with a proven track record. Although Sanders certainly fits the first half of the equation, his lack of NFL coaching experience could leave him on the outside looking in if he does change his mind.

Whether it's Sanders or someone proven like Bill Belichick who replaces McCarthy, one thing is clear: the Cowboys can't afford to make the wrong decision. The Super Bowl drought is approaching 30 years and hiring the wrong head coach could see those woes extended.

With an in-season firing unlikely, McCarthy will look to end the 2024 season on as high of a note as possible. The Cowboys' next test comes on Sunday with a Week 12 showdown against the rival Washington Commanders.
