The Dallas Cowboys have been quiet this offseason, which isn't a surprise since they haven't made many big-time signings in free agency as of late.

The biggest thing on their to-do list is to extend Micah Parsons, who is looking to be the highest-paid defensive player in the league. While that is a major priority, the Cowboys still have some players who are eligible for extensions.

ESPN's Todd Archer wrote an article discussing who else needs an extension for Dallas and one player who was included on that list is guard Tyler Smith. Dallas would be wise to extend one of their best players this offseason.

Cowboys Should Extend Tyler Smith

Archer wrote, "First-rounder Tyler Smith, a Pro Bowl guard, has his fifth-year option for 2026 at a cost of $21.27 million."

Smith was a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Cowboys and has been a staple rock upfront. The Tulsa product has the versatility to play both tackle and guard, excelling in both spots. He has two Pro Bowls (2023 & 2024) under his belt along with a second-team All-Pro nod (2023).

The 24-year-old is the type of player Dallas should look to build their offensive line around. With Zack Martin officially retired, Smith gives this team another anchor up front.

Smith has finished with an overall grade of 70 per PFF in all three seasons with the Cowboys. Over the past two seasons, he's allowed fewer than four sacks and pressures.

Trey Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs is playing on a $23.4 million franchise tag as he seeks to secure a massive extension. That makes him the highest-paid guard in the league. He will look to land a deal in the ballpark of $20 million-plus. The Cowboys should be proactive for once and lock down one of their foundational pieces early instead of being late. The longer they wait, the price will only increase.

Smith is one of the best players at his position, so Dallas would be wise to extend him this offseason on top of getting a deal done with Micah Parsons.
