The Dallas Cowboys kick off their preseason schedule on Saturday as they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. As always, the game will be less about the result than the individual performances. The first of three preseason games under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer will make position battles more clear ahead of the roster cutdown date.
Even though everyone is laser-focused on the Micah Parsons drama, the Cowboys are dealing with even more unfortunate situations. The injury bug has already hit the Cowboys' training camp in Oxnard, California, ruling out an offseason arrival.

Cowboys Offseason Acquisition Rob Jones Ruled Out for the Season
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday that offensive lineman Rob Jones has been ruled out for the season after getting placed on the injured reserve list. The veteran guard who signed a one-year, $4.75 million deal this offseason was expected to provide valuable offensive line depth for a team that desperately needs it. Jones had started all 17 games for the Miami Dolphins last season, playing over 1,000 snaps at left guard. He was likely going to back up Tyler Booker at right guard to begin the season.
Jones initially suffered the injury during a training camp practice on July 28. The broken bone in his neck was expected to keep him out for 2-3 months per the initial announcement, so the IR placement comes as a minor surprise ahead of the preseason. He could have been eligible to return this season if he had been on the roster past the roster cutdown date, late August.
The Cowboys quickly filled the new roster spot by bringing back running back Malik Davis. They also waived fellow offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley and claimed guard Nick Broeker off waivers from the Steelers. Broeker will try to make the roster as the backup guard option behind Booker and Tyler Smith.
