Cowboys Now Have the Opportunity to Land Perfect Free Agent With Klayton Adams Connection
The Dallas Cowboys are looking to change things around in 2025. After going 7-10 and missing out on the postseason, Dallas decided they didn't want to continue things with Mike McCarthy.
Instead, they named Brian Schottenheimer as the tenth head coach in team history. They have used this past week to fill in his coaching staff. The Cowboys already added Matt Eberflus and Aaron Whitecotton to their coaching staff.
They continued the additions on Friday, as they named Klayton Adams the new offensive coordinator. With Adams now in the fold, the Cowboys may end up being an ideal landing spot for OT Kelvin Beachum.
After spending the past two seasons in Arizona, Beachum is going to become a free agent this March. This past season, he started in 12 games for the Cardinals and gave them stability at tackle.
According to PFF, the 35-year-old finished with a 64.1 overall grade (59th among 141 eligible tackles) and a 75.4 pass-blocking grade (35th among 141 eligible tackles). He only allowed four sacks, two QB hits, and 16 total pressures.
That could be a step up from what the Cowboys got this season from OT Tyler Guyton. Dallas used their 2024 first-round pick on Guyton to be the replacement for Tyron Smith. Despite the high hopes, the Oklahoma product struggled immensely as a rookie.
Across 15 games (11 starts), Guyton was one of the worst players at his position. Per PFF, Guyton finished with a 49.4 overall grade (116th among 141 eligible tackles), 60.2 pass-blocking grade (81st among 141 eligible tackles), and 51.3 run-blocking grade (117th among 141 eligible tackles).
He also committed 18 penalties, allowed 26 pressures, and gave up six sacks. That type of production is lackluster and the Cowboys need more along the offensive line.
Giving a guy like Beachum a one-year deal in free agency became more likely with the addition of Adams. Having competition in the building for Guyton seems like a wise approach. Especially with Dak Prescott coming back after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury.
